Germany boosts border patrols to tackle illegal immigration
Germany has announced an increase in police patrols along its border with Poland and the Czech Republic in an effort to combat illegal immigration and prevent further migrants from entering the country. This comes after recent police raids uncovered more than 100 Syrian citizens inside apartments connected to a smuggling ring.
However, rather than installing fixed border checks, Germany plans to implement new measures in close cooperation with its neighboring countries. German Finance Minister, Christian Lindner, has also announced the enrollment of additional customs officers to support the heightened border control.
The primary objective of these measures is to crack down on smuggling and illegal migration, while simultaneously seeking to prevent the cruelty inflicted by smugglers who profit at the expense of human lives. Many cities and communities in Germany are already struggling to accommodate migrants and provide enough school places. With over 220,000 people having applied for asylum in Germany between January and August this year, the strain on resources and infrastructure is mounting.
Furthermore, Germany has already taken in more than 1 million Ukrainians, who have fled their war-torn country in search of safety and security. Alarmingly, statistics reveal that approximately 25% of all migrants who reach Germany do so with the help of smugglers, endangering their lives on dangerous routes.
Experts argue that the lack of safe and legal avenues for individuals to claim asylum or gain entry into the European Union has contributed to the thriving business of human smuggling. As a result, Germany aims to prevent smugglers from evading detection by implementing flexible and mobile checks at varying locations.
To combat irregular migration effectively, it is believed that a joint European asylum system and stricter external border control are necessary steps. These measures would not only reduce the burden on individual countries but also enhance the overall security and stability of the European Union.
