Inauguration in Brussels of the EU-AU Summit with the participation of Morocco

The sixth EU-African Union summit opened in Brussels on Thursday afternoon with Morocco’s participation.

The Moroccan delegation is led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.

If, for the European side, the summit is an opportunity to lay the foundation for a renewed and deeper partnership with the African Union, Morocco will, through its qualitative presence, reaffirm their political commitment under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI . The highest level that is part of the Royal Vision for a prosperous, free Africa capable of taking its own destiny into its own hands.

In addition to Morocco’s very active participation in all sectors (intergovernmental, private sector, NGOs) organized as a prelude to the summit, Morocco’s co-chair of the Round Table which will take place on Friday on Education, Culture, Vocational Training and Migration . And the dynamism, due to the royal leadership, marks a renewed belief in the place enjoyed by the Kingdom, with its African brethren and its European friends and partners.

According to the Council of the European Union, this summit will be “a unique opportunity to lay the foundation for a new and deeper partnership between the AU and the EU, benefiting from a political commitment at the highest level based on trust and a clear understanding.” of our mutual interests.

African and European leaders are expected to discuss how the two continents can drive prosperity, aimed at launching an ambitious Africa-Europe investment package, taking into account global challenges such as climate change and the current health crisis.

The two sides should also discuss tools and solutions to promote stability and security through a new framework for peace and security.

The summit is organized around thematic round tables on funding development, health systems and vaccine production, agriculture and sustainable development, education, culture and professional training, migration and mobility. , support for the private sector, economic integration and peace, security and governance, and finally climate change and energy transition, connectivity and digital and transport infrastructure.

At the end of this summit a joint declaration on a shared vision for 2030 should be adopted.

It should be recalled that the fifth EU-AU summit was held in Abidjan on 29 and 30 November 2017. On this occasion, EU and AU leaders adopted a joint declaration setting out common priorities for the EU-Africa partnership in four strategic areas, namely youth economic opportunity, peace and security, mobility and cooperation on migration and governance.
