Health boss will ‘undoubtedly’ go to Tier 3 lockdown if Nottingham infection rate is not low

Nottingham’s director of public health has warned that “no doubt” the city will be pushed towards stricter Tier 3 lockdown banding if the rate of Spring infection is not too soon.

His message came as a city, and as of Oct. 14, the county recorded nearly 1,000 new lawsuits in 24 hours.

The rate of infection in the city is in a better position than anywhere else in England, even Liverpool, as critical care beds were forced into severe lockdowns as they were almost filled efficiently.

If the infection continues as it is now, the virus will eventually enter older and more at-risk populations, said Allison Challenger, director of public health at Nottingham City Council.

He says it will have an unnecessary impact on local businesses as well as people’s lives.

Mrs Challenger told Nottinghamshire Live: “Everyone in Nottingham has no doubt that the government will move us towards maximum restrictions if the infection rate does not start soon.

“Our country still has the highest rate of infection where we don’t want to live.

“If people leave their lives unchanged, it won’t be too long before we expect to see more infections in the older population, and that could easily create problems with the affordability at our hospital that could place us in Tier Three.”

“We all need to avoid it, not only because more people will be infected and will probably become critically ill from the virus, but more than the current restrictions imposed on our daily lives and local businesses.”

Yesterday, the leader of Nottingham City Council said the government had made it clear to him that restrictions on the city would be increased if the Covid rate situation did not improve.

Councilor David Mellen said: “The government has left us in doubt that if the situation in Nottingham does not change they may impose on us a ‘very high’ warning level – Tier 3 – so I will appeal to the people of Nottingham. Please take these restrictions seriously.” Take it with you. “

Currently, on October 11, the city of Nottingham has an infection rate of 892.2.

By comparison, Liverpool city center rates are around 1 at1 per 100,000, but are reported to be affecting older and weaker people than Nottingham.

As of October 14, the city had recorded an even larger increase of 543 – the latest available data – reaching a total of 7,121.

Admitted to hospital, almost doubling every week.

Mrs Challenger added: “I urge all locals, young and old, to strictly adhere to the basic guidelines of handwashing, to wear face masks and to maintain social distance.

“Ask yourself if the months have passed and if so, please double your efforts. This can’t really be more important.

“After all, the new restrictions for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire mean you will not meet with anyone outside your home or support bubbles in any indoor environment at home or in public places.

“You must not meet more than six outdoor groups, including in a garden or other place, and you should aim to reduce the number of trips where possible, avoiding necessary trips or cycling or avoiding busy times and public transport.

“I thank those who accept this restriction and acknowledge the compromises, difficulties and concerns it brings, especially if anyone supports more vulnerable friends or relatives.

“If we all follow these rules, we can start slowing down and controlling the rate of infection that will help save lives and livelihoods in our region.”
