Guterres appointed Caroline Ziadeh to head the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday announced the appointment of Lebanese Caroline Ziyadeh as the new Special Representative and head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Ms. Ziyadeh will replace Afghan Zahir Tanin, to whom the Secretary-General expressed his gratitude for his dedicated efforts to promote peace and stability in Kosovo and the region, and for his effective leadership of UNMIK.

Since 2017, Caroline Ziadeh was the Director of the Department of International Organizations, Conventions and Cultural Services within the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lebanese diaspora. She has been involved in diplomacy for nearly thirty years, and has benefited from her in-depth knowledge of the United Nations as she has led the Lebanese delegation to the United Nations on issues such as migration, sustainable development and ministry work. Human rights and women, the peace and security agenda.

Former Deputy Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York (2006–2017), Ms Ziyadeh served in the Lebanese embassies in the United Kingdom (2004–2006), Belgium and the European Union (1994–1999), as well as in Vienna Within the Permanent Mission of Lebanon and the Embassies in Austria, Croatia and Slovakia (1999–2002). He also held other positions in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Ms. Ziadeh holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics and political science from the Lebanese University of Beirut and degrees in international relations from the Open University of Brussels and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He is fluent in Arabic, English and French.
