Green Whisper: 43rd Ryder Cup Facts, Golf Continental Comparison – New Sticker

Ryder Cup – This is the most important team event in golf. Over three days, twelve of the best golfers from Europe and the United States will compete against each other.

For the 43rd edition, the Whistling Straits Golf Course in the US state of Wisconsin is the site of the iconic continental comparison. The American team on the shores of Lake Michigan is looking to reclaim the title from the Europeans.

Ryder-Cup-Die Tradition: The 1927 Ryder Cup was played for the first time in Worcester (USA). Until 1971, only the United States and Great Britain provided teams, the “rest of Europe” having been there only since 1979. It was named after Samuel Ryder, an England seed dealer and golf enthusiast. He also donated a small cup of gold.

Equilibrium from the European point of view: 42 doubles – 14 wins – 26 losses – 2 draws

modus operandi: With 28 points awarded over three days (16 for a four-a-side, 12 for an individual), the defending champions already have a draw to win. The challenger must score at least 14.5:13.5.

Game Format: On Friday and Saturday, four team doubles will be played over two seasons – the so-called foursome. A team consists of two players each. A hole win for the successful team is rated 1:0 – in the case of a draw it is “split” with 0.5:0.5. Twelve singles – Man Against Man – are on the schedule for Sunday.

Ryder Cup on TV: The continental comparison of the best golfers from Europe and the USA can only be seen on the pay TV broadcaster Sky in Germany. The Games will be broadcast live on Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to 1 pm. The final on Sunday will start at 6 pm.
