Glasgow is the world’s first city

According to the Rough Guide readers, the first city in the world is Glasgow in Scotland.

Rough Guide readers are usually English speakers, so they will find friend cities where people speak English and indeed award-winning cities where English is well spoken.

Montreal is actually in third place after Glasgow Dublin, well it is French speaking Canada but English is spoken anyway.

In fourth place we have Liverpool and fifth in Tokyo. Another Canadian city in sixth place, this time Vancouver. Seventh in Copenhagen and eighth in Dubai. Ninth in Manchester and tenth in Melbourne, Australia. After Cape Town in South Africa with Budapest in the XI there was little surprise. At thirteenth place we have Vientiane in Laos, Wellington in South Africa at fourteenth followed by Atlanta.

Undoubtedly the odd list is no city in Italy, Spain, Portugal or the Mediterranean region. Even the United States, which is English-speaking, is a city ranked 15th only. Britain has three places on the list. But even if it is said that Rough Guides is a British company, its guides are published in many languages.
