Former Swans boss Michael Laudrup eyeing up winger Jefferson Montero - reports

Former Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup is reportedly eyeing up out-of-favour winger Jefferson Montero.

The 27 year-old struggled for first-team appearances last season through injury and former Swans boss Laudrup is believed to be interested in the winger’s services.

Montero initially impressed under another former manager in the shape of Gary Monk when signed in 2014, however his struggles with injury last season limited the Ecudorian to just 13 first-team appearances for the Swans last season.

And according to The Sun, former Swans manager Michael Laudrup is keen to bring the winger to Al-Rayyan.

The 53 year-old, former Denmark International was lauded for his shrewd signings at SA1, which included signing striker Michu from Rayo Vallecano for €2.5 million - he went onto score 22 goals in 2012 for the Swans, however, the 31 year-old recently announced his retirement from football altogether.

Laudrup had a lot of success at Swansea, which included winning the league Cup, courtesy of beating League Two opposition Bradford City 5-0, however, following a poor run of form, Laudrup was ultimately sacked in 2014.

Since his two-year tenure at the Swans, Laudrup has gone onto manage two seperate sides in the Qatar Stars League.

His first managerial job in Qatar was managing Lekhwiya and he is now in charge of Al-Rayyan, and is clearly intent on improving his attacking options with Montero being one of the players on his radar.

The Ecuadorian has made 66 appearances for the Swans in the three years at the club, scoring on the mere one occasion - he also has 63 international caps to his name, and has scored 10 times for Ecuador.

With the winger out-of-favour at SA1, a move to the Qatar Stars League could be the perfect opportunity for the winger to reignite his career.

Newcastle United were also interested in the winger earlier in the transfer window, however, Laudrup will hope to convince Montero to join him at Al-Rayyan.
