At least two people have been killed by floods in several cities in the north and northeast of Spain this weekend, according to a report updated by emergency services on Monday.
The second victim is a man whose body was retrieved on Sunday from his van that was stuck in a river flood after heavy rain in the country’s north.
A 49-year-old woman, who had hit the area a fortnight after inclement weather caused landslides, died in her car.
The Basque Country and Catalonia have also been facing days of heavy rain, flooding of rivers and snowfall at high altitudes.
Spain’s interior minister, Fernando Grande-Marlasca, stressed that the central government is already working on a “recovery phase” of the significant damage caused by the storm’s flooding.
