First video of Perseverance Rover’s landing on Mars

NASA released a stunning video of its rover’s fortitude landing on Mars on Monday, following a mission to the Red Planet in search of ancient life on Thursday.

In just three minutes long, the published video reveals images of multiple cameras located in different locations on the module, after entering the Martian environment: one depicts the deployment of a supersonic parachute, the other, located beneath the rover, the Martian The mud is coming, and two other ideas show that the rover slowly accumulates on the ground, suspended by three cables.

However, no sound could be recorded during the vertical descent, NASA said.

“This is the first time we’ve been able to catch an event such as landing on Mars,” Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director Michael Watkins said at the press conference. “It’s really fantastic.”

“These pictures and videos are what we’ve dreamed of for years,” said Alan Chen, who was in charge of landing for NASA. They will be used by NASA teams to understand what happens during such a landing.

At a speed of 20,000 km / h in the atmosphere, the rover was protected by a heat shield at its entrance. We can also see this shield dropped on the surface of Mars on the video.

Eight retro-rockets slowed down the vehicle, and Martian dust can be seen under their influence.

The cameras are standard commercial cameras, paired without being attached to the rover’s system so as not to disturb it.

The landing maneuver was dangerous and the site chosen, the Jozero Crater, was the most risky attempt because of it.
