Far Lab | Cowboy Modern in Casemate with students of Science Po Grenoble | ecology

From February 11 to 17, La Casemate’s Fab Lab organized a “Soft Materials” workshop for the students of the Master Transmedia of Sciences Po Grenoble. The workshop addressed perceptions of digital fabrication and media on the topic of resilience. During this week, students have designed and built an object or device in groups made of half a flexible material. Find one of these items below the presentation.

Welcome to Far Lab.

In this transmedia haute-couture laboratory, we design the next cowboy-artist of the 21st century.

concept and team

Adèle Couvert, Rémi Métin, Emma Reboul, Sabrina Meriah and Jeremy Maurin are students of the Master in Digital Strategy and New Media at Science Po Grenoble. Adele Couvert is the vocalist of the music duo Adele & Robin and a member of the Jeremy Maurin music group Dual State. His experience in the artistic scene inspired us to produce apparel of unprecedented quality.

The aim of our project is to create a piece of fashion never thought before due to the flexibility offered by Casemate. The piece is therefore aimed at artists, especially those on stage, in search of originality and individuality.

Features of T-shirts

That’s why we created a modern pastiche of a cowboy jacket design based on a long sleeve t-shirt. For this, we chose to include a metal chain in our t-shirts that runs through each sleeve. The choice of iron chain allows us to associate the identity of the cowboy with the more modern industrial and rigid universe. Iron was also chosen for its light-reflecting properties, to expose the performer to the stage.

The notion of interchangeability and personalization is at the heart of our work. The route of the chain is flexible and customizable, thanks to our Scratch system sewn into the T-shirt. For this, every third link of the chain is made of Velcro and hangs on the opposite Velcro that is sewn to the T-shirt. The user will be able to adorn their apparel with their own decorations and accessories on the chains that run through the sleeves of our T-shirts. In addition to sleeves, the chain can be tied around the waist. With our piece, the user expresses his concept of style.

Each of the three chains designed to adorn our T-shirts is one of a kind: the first is an American cowboy style jeans and thin, laser-cut strips of leather attached; on the other are assorted strips of leather and jeans and metal jewelery (gold and silver); And finally the third one is in the iron chain for raw industrial form.

Lastly, the Far Lab brand universe has come to life thanks to the FL logo designed by Remy and embroidered in the center of the T-shirt.

identification of t-shirts

Our part is flexible. Our range blurs the lines between softness and hardness, combining soft sips into one hard range. Our T-shirts also blur the line between femininity and masculinity, connecting the world of cowboy, mechanical cogs and jewelry. She adapts to her audience and transcends the symbolic boundaries of the genre.
