UEFA reassured the quarter-finals to be held in St Petersburg on Friday, after doubts over the issue due to the record outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic recorded in the Russian city.

According to a spokesman for the European football body, “the quarter-finals will go as planned”. The information was also confirmed by the press service of the Euro Organizing Committee in St. Petersburg.

For a UEFA spokesman, the Russian health situation “changes absolutely nothing for the teams” and it was “not planned to change the venue” of the match that would pit the winner of France-Switzerland against Croatia-Spain.

As a reminder, St Petersburg is the second most affected city in Russia, after Moscow, from the new wave of pandemics caused by the delta version of the coronavirus, which is known to be more contagious.
