Scott Barrow and Oliver Davies depart Merthyr Town

Goalkeeper Oliver Davies and defender Scott Barrow have left Merthyr Town FC, the club confirmed earlier today.

Both played a key role last season as the Martyrs flirted with promotion only to lose in the play-off semi-final to Hitchin Town.

Goalkeeper Davies joined the club from Swansea City in late 2016 and quickly established himself as first-choice with a string of top performances and penalty saves during his short spell at the club. Davies also won Junior Martyrs Player of the Year.

Left-back Barrow joined the club in August 2016 from Newport County and was voted the Forza Martyrs supporters group player of the season runner-up for the 2016-17 season.

Despite his defensive heroics, it was Barrow’s threat from set-pieces which Merthyr will miss most next season with the former Swansea youth product scoring a number of free-kicks.

It has not been revealed where either player will be playing next season although has been confirmed that Barrow has left the club for a full-time playing contract elsewhere.

The duo become the third and fourth official departures following Keyon Reffel and Kayne McLaggon’s move to Hereford and Barry Town respectively.

It will be interesting to see who the Martyrs bring in to replace the pair who proved to be real fan-favourites in such a short time at the club.

Merthyr have so far brought in former Cardiff, Hereford, Charlton Athletic and Forest Green Rovers striker Stuart Fleetwood as well as re-signing former Swansea player Kerry Morgan.
