a ritual. Like last year, BCW Sports, the sports division of international communications agency Burson Kohn & Wolff, has unveiled the 2021 rankings of international sports federations according to their presence and activity on the social network. It brings together all Winter and Summer Olympic sports bodies, but also non-Olympic international sports organizations recognized by the IOC. Lesson first: the health crisis has not slowed down the growth of the sports movement on social networks, but has accelerated it even further. On average, international associations have seen a 36% increase on Instagram and 33% on Facebook in 2021. At the top of the list, World Athletics gained 4 million followers (it has 8.1 million), a 101% increase in just one year. Another trend: so-called traditional international federations are doing much better than newly created bodies. The former has a much larger fanbase on social networks than the latter, yet lags behind the movement in terms of digital presence. Finally, studies by BCW Sports show that international summer sports federations are more present on the web than their counterparts in winter disciplines. The latter does not appear in any of the top 10 of the various rankings. Despite the Tokyo Games being held last year, the three international federations in the top 10 do not belong to the Olympic movement. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has retained its No. 1 position (over 79 million subscribers) with a growth of 35%. This is ahead of FIFA (41,082,790) and FIBA (13,909,368) in the top three. The other two non-Olympic bodies ranked in the top 10 are the International Tekball Federation (7th with over 6 million subscribers), and the International Cheer Union (cheerleading), with 3.3 million followers, in tenth place.
