Newport County have today signed attacking-midfielder Lamar Reynolds after impressing during his time at Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy.
It is the second player to join a Football League side from the V9 Academy, after Stevenage signed Blair Turgott last week.
The 21 year-old won Brentwood Town Player of the Season last season after scoring 28 goals in 36 First Team starts.
Manager Michael Flynn who was speaking to the Newport County official website commented on the signing of the young forward.
“I’m really pleased Lamar has decided to sign. I know a lot of team were interested in him over the summer.
He’s an exciting attacking player who can cause defenders a lot of trouble. With myself, Wayne and Lennie, we’re hoping the coaching we give him will help him fulfil his potential.”
Reynolds has been playing non-league football for some time, with appearances for clubs like Aveley, Thurrock and Barking but now it will be Football League football for the former Grays Athletic man and he’s delighted with the news.
“I’m delighted to have signed for Newport County AFC.
A few clubs were interested in me but Newport showed the most interest.
The gaffer was also a big factor in signing after seeing what he did at the end of last season, I see a bright future for me with this club.”
The Amber Army will be able to watch Reynolds for the first time in 17 days, as they travel to Welsh League Division One side Undy Athletic in a pre-season friendly.
