Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Barley has claimed that his old club is a better team than Tottenham and is more likely to win the Premier League title at Stamford Bridge than Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Like the Spurs, Chelsea brought in a number of big-name signatures over the summer and their squad seems to have been jailed fairly quickly.
After showing some defensive weakness in the first few games of the season, Frank Lampard’s men have held on to their last five wins in all competitions in recent weeks.
Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday put them at the top of the table, but Chelsea are just two points behind third-placed London rivals.
The Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend which could be a great test for both teams’ title aspirations but Barley is confident that Chelsea have a better option than the North Londoners across the pitch.
Asked if Chelsea had a better chance of winning the title than Tottenham, Pundit told ESPN FC (published by Goal.com): “Oh yes. I think Chelsea are a much more talented team than the Spurs.
“Tottenham have a good team but Chelsea have an incredible amount of attacking players.
“They have had a great experience with signing Thiago Silva, they have got a natural left-back at Ben Chilwell. The rise of Reese James has become a meteor – he is taking his game to a new level.
“They have strengthened their goalkeeper situation and Frank [Lampard] Mentioning that N’Golo looks like a player in Kante several years ago.
“I just think Chelsea have a better option [than Tottenham]. They’re in the right shape to mount a title challenge. “
