Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison has agreed a contract extension as the club this afternoon.

The former Royals skipper had been subject of a £3m bid from Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday but the club stood firm and rejected the Owls advances.

Morrison who was made captain of the Bluebirds following David Marshall’s departure last season agreed an extension of three-years on his contract which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2020.

The club announced the news this afternoon during the clubs pre-season tour of Cornwall, in which they remain unbeaten after wins against Bodmin Town and Tavistock.

Since joining from Reading back in 2014 for an undisclosed fee, Morrison has accumalated 120 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds, scoring thirteen goals by using his physical presence.

Speaking to iFollow Cardiff City, Morrison stated his desire to remain with Cardiff and wants to continue working with manager Neil Warnock.

“Fortunately, it’s been quite easy going – I made it clear that I wanted to stay at Cardiff City and the Gaffer told me he wanted me. I’m absolutely delighted to be here for the next three years.

“Our form towards the end of last year showed what we’re capable of as a team and hopefully we can take that straight into the new season.”

Neil Warnock alluded to a reported bid from Sheffield Wednesday this summer but praised his captain’s desire to remain with the club, predicting what could be a memorable season for himself and Cardiff this season.

“You’ve got to take your hat off to Sean. He could have moved on having been made quite a lucrative offer, but he told me, ‘I don’t want to Gaffer – I think there’s something special happening here..”

One of Morrison’s centre-back partners Bruno Ecuele Manga signed a new deal at the club this summer amidst interest from other clubs and Sol Bamba has also been linked with a possible contract extension.
