Brighton look to beat Derby County to Welsh international midfielder Tom Lawrence - reports

Brighton & Hove Albion are fighting it out with Championship outfit Derby County for the signature of Welsh international attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence.

The 23 year-old was impressive on loan at Championship outfit Ipswich Town last season, scoring a total of 11 goals in 36 games for the Tractors and was named the club’s player of the season following his impressive performances throughout the season.

The Welshman has since returned to Leicester City for pre-season, however, he is believed to be a target for Championship club Derby County and newly promoted Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

And according to HITC, Brighton & Hove Albion are hoping to beat Gary Rowett’s Derby County for the attacking midfielder’s services, and hope the incentive of Premier League football can tempt Lawrence to the AMEX Stadium.

Lawrence started his career at Manchester United and has had various loan spells, including one at Cardiff City last season, however, he failed to impress - and made just 14 appearances at the Cardiff City Stadium under Russell Slade.

The former Manchester United academy player has also made six senior appearances for Wales and if he can replicate the performances he showed on loan at Ipswich Town last season, he will have every chance of featuring in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

With the Seagulls in the Premier League for the first time in their history, Chris Hughton is keen on making a team capable of staying in the Premier League and Tom Lawrence could prove to be a shrewd addition ahead of their season opener against Manchester City on the 12th of August.
