Boris Johnson strengthens unclear ties between UK and Saudi Arabia

The prime minister’s visit on Tuesday was an opportunity to renew old ties with the Gulf countries, a move that has puzzled the United Kingdom.

bOrris Johnson made his visit to the Gulf countries an exercise in real politics. “We are facing a new reality that we must face with our allies,” he tweeted. I am visiting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which are important partners in ensuring regional security and stabilizing global energy markets in the aftermath of Russia’s unprecedented, brutal and illegal invasion. In passing, he took the opportunity to finalize a billion-pound investment in a project to convert domestic waste into fuel for aviation.

But the visit was also an opportunity to strengthen the nearly hundred years of ties between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. Illustrated by the character Lawrence of Arabia, he has always been welcomed on the British side.
