Edinburgh –
Scotland’s Prime Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, is adamant on his plan for Scotland to join the European Union. Sturgeon will lead his nation in the European Union in an interview with the daily newspaper “Die Welt” and other European media for the referendum she is aiming for after independence. “According to the latest surveys, more than half of Scots want independence. I trust that Scott will say yes in the next referendum. “
An independent Scotland would then immediately apply for EU membership. In his view, Scotland is “a unique case for quick access to the European Union”. Scotland’s accession is “not an enlargement”. Eventually, Scotland was a member for over 40 years, as part of the United Kingdom. “Scotland is coming home, this is not a new beginning.”
Scotland needs London approval for the referendum. If Prime Minister Boris Johnson does not allow a referendum, he does not exclude the judicial process, hence Sturgeon. “If London refuses to give its consent, we will have to see if the Scottish Parliament can pass the necessary legislation. This question has not come up in court yet, but I am not dismissing it. We cannot allow the British government to block democracy. “(Dpa)
