Burt Ward thought of his longtime friend, “Batman” star Adam West.
The actor, who played Cape Crusaders in the popular 1960s TV series, died of leukemia in 2017 at the age of 88.
The 76-year-old played his trusted sidekick Robin.
“He and I got along incredibly well,” Ward revealed in the latest issue of Closer Weekly, now on newsstands. “Within five minutes of meeting, we were both laughing so loudly that he had to tell us to shut up. We just clicked. He was the funniest person I’ve ever met in my entire life. ,

And their bond continued even when the couple was not on set.
“On the weekends, we played tennis together,” Ward said. “We were going to the public courts, and people were watching and saying, ‘It’s Batman and Robin playing tennis! « »
Ward insisted that he won a lot “because I was too fast”.
“But he was saying things like, ‘We can’t count that,'” he told the outlet. “He tried to make it a little more equal. »
But bringing the show to life was no laughing matter. Ward, who performed many of his stunts, said he got hurt “every day”.

“I mean, you can’t imagine,” he explained. “Once upon a time I was tied to a table and Batman had to poke a hole in the wall. The studio forgot to build a dividing wall, so the special effects guys used real dynamite to blow up the soundstage. I couldn’t listen for a week after that. ,
“It was dangerous,” he continued. “I kept seeing the same doctor in the hospital. He told me that I should consider another job because I ran into something broken or burnt out almost every week. The studio took a $3 million life insurance policy on me. I think in the end, they were trying to collect! ,
“Batman” only aired for three seasons, from 1966 to 1968. While Ward did not star in “The Graduate”, due to the series’ continued success (the lead role went to Dustin Hoffman), Starr insisted that he didn’t mind typing .
“I still get the chance to do a lot of different things,” he explained. “I made 40 films for television. I played the Pope. I played a really evil demonic character. I’ll see [life] Because my glass is always half full. ,

In 2017, Ward told Fox News that he was shocked to learn of West’s passing.
“I saw him a few weeks ago,” Ward said at the time. “We had breakfast before signing autographs all day. We went on stage, he was walking so fast that I could barely follow him. He was in very good condition. I didn’t know her in my heart [what was going to happen], He was talking about traveling to Europe with his wife next month. He asked me if I wanted to perform something in the UK as he was going to Europe… We were supposed to be in Las Vegas next week. Additionally, he was talking about adding big shows. ,
He also shared that his decades-long friendship with the West was the real deal.
“Nothing has ever changed,” he said. “We were exactly the same after the first three minutes of our meeting. We were both really fun people and we both had a great time together. We were such good friends that when we weren’t filming, we would sometimes go out on weekends and play tennis…he was such a wonderful person.
