ALKUSEN ’97, the latest in Alan Holdsworth’s ongoing series of classic live recordings, will be released on March 12 by Manifesto Records.
The guitar duplex CD / DVD set was beautifully presented on 16 October 1997 at the Leverkusen Jazzetz Festival in Germany. The package provides audio and video copies of the 11 songs that were recorded and filmed for German television. High quality audio and video have already been digitally re-recorded from the original tape.
Holdsworth was assisted by longtime drummer and collaborator Chad Walkman and bassist Dave Carpenter for the performance. Walkman also wrote written notes for the group based on his personal memories of Hallsworth and playing for Carpenter on the 1997 European tour.
Wackerman wrote, “Allen wrote great music that defies classification.” “It is beautiful, strong, harmonically rich, rhythmically fun with creative song forms. Still very emotional. “The drummer, who had a musical relationship with Hollsworth in 1982, was also interviewed for his contribution to the written notes, which revealed Hollesworth’s career in 1997 and his role in the performance of Leverkusen, Alan Holsworth Manning Bartlett, The untrue Allan, who heads the influential Facebook group, is Holsworth.
LEVERKUSEN ’97 follows the previous three releases in the Alan Holdsworth Live CD / DVD series LAP IN JAPAN 1984, SUMMER JAZZ DAYS ’98 and FRANKFURT ’86, which were accepted as Hollsworth’s fanatical fan base.
The music and legacy of guitar Holsworth has been adopted over the years by ax-throwers, from Eddie van Halen and Joe Satrani to Frank Zappa and Tom Morello. It was Van Hallan, who caught Holsworth’s attention for British-born Warner Bros. Records, while Zappa once called him “one of the world’s most interesting guitarists”.
LEVERKUSEN ’97 begins with The Sixteen Men of Ten, the lead track of the popular 2000 Hallsworth album, and includes three other tracks that would later appear in this studio set: “0247”, “Up and Down” And “Texas”. “Water is also included.” On the brain pundit.
