A tanker in the Gulf: Iran tightens the noose against smuggling of hydrocarbons

“Naval forces seize a ship carrying smuggled oil in the Persian Gulf,” Revolutionary Guard Corps public relations chief Gholamhossein Hosseini, quoting the official agency, said Irna. “During inspection, 250,000 liters of contraband fuel were discovered”, They said that “Seven crew members were arrested”.

“Smuggling, especially fuel, into the Persian Gulf is one of the Guardian Navy’s important missions”“, underlined the same officer who did not specify the date of seizure of the boat or the origin of the ship or the nationality of the crew members.

The new boarding follows a wave of seizure of ships in the sea lanes serving the gulf, where much of the world’s oil is produced and shipped. Last week, Iran announced the capture of a foreign boat carrying more than 220,000 liters of smuggled fuel and the arrest of 11 of its crew members, without giving further details.
