A Croatia who went for 4 years at someone else’s expense!

After “stealing” fuel for nearly four years, police in Opatija apprehended a 35-year-old man, who is now accused of tampering with documents and numerous criminal activities of theft.

According to the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Administration, they repeatedly removed license plates from other people’s cars in the Rijeka area, mounted them freely, and then went to the gas station, refueled and fled.

According to data from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar police, he did this 15 times from May 2017 to January 2021. Not to be traced, he refueled in the region of Rijeka, Opatija, Lovran, Matulji, Kastava and Viskovo, and each time he spent around 60 euros. After fleeing the gas station, he returned the license plates to the vehicle or next to the vehicle from which he had previously stolen them. Police said the total value of fuel stolen in this way is 1000 euros.

The 35-year-old suspect was reported to the competent state attorney’s office after the completion of the criminal investigation, the Primorje-Gorski Kotor Police Department explains.
