A Chadian appointed Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday appointed Mahatam Saleh as his new Special Representative for West Africa and Sahel and Head of the United Nations Office for the sake of Chadian Annadif.

Mr. Mahatam Saleh has appointed Mohammad ibn Chambas of Ghana as General Secretary. “Thankful for his dedication and effective leadership at the helm of UNOWAS”, Said a spokesman for Mr. Guterres during his daily press briefing.

Annadi Khatir Mahatam Saleh, who has been the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Mali and heads the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) since 2015, comes to the post “A vast national and international experience, participated in many peace processes in Africa, notably in Niger, Central African Republic and Sudan”According to the spokesperson.

He was also the Special Representative of the African Union and the Head of the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) (2012-2014) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997-2003) in Chad, Head of the Office of the President (2004–2006) and General Secretary of the Presidency (2010–2012).

Mr. Mahamat Saleh was also the Permanent Representative of the AU Commission for the European Union (2006–2010).
