The fire spread over the Dryton Monoray theme park.

The Staffordshire Fire Service said its crew has been fighting the blaze at the facility since it was brought under control.

Emergency workers rushed to the scene of the blaze on Tuesday evening.

Operators at Drayton Mono confirmed that its zoo animals were safe and no one was injured in the fire.

The fire is believed to have started inside a toilet block in the toilet land section of the Thomas Land Division in Thomas Park, local news site Tamworth Informed reported.

Shortly before midnight, Drayton Monroe tweeted that the fire had been brought under control.

The statement said: “We can confirm that we currently have a large fire crew in the park.

“Since becoming aware of the fire, we have been in close contact with the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who have advised us that the situation is now, thankfully, under control.

“No one was injured and all the animals in the park are safe.

“It is still not safe for us to survey the damage. For now, we echo the advice of local residents to keep doors and windows closed, and thank everyone involved for a quick and effective response. “

The fire service tweeted: “Fire crews from Tamworth, Markia, Chase Terrace, Trent, Burton and Canuck and Burton Under Nudewood are currently working on a large fire in the Dryton Manor field.

“Please keep windows and doors closed.”

The park has about a hundred animals.

Drayton Manor is the fourth largest theme park in the United Kingdom.

It was forced to shut down due to coronavirus restrictions.

Staffordshire is currently under Tier 3 action.
