Swansea City have reportedly started negotiations with Italian veteran playmaker Alessandro Diamanti.
The 34 year-old is currently plying his trade with Palermo, but after his current side suffered relegation to Serie B, and is keen to swap Italian’s second flight in favour of a move to the Premier League.
The experienced veteran has had experience in the Premier League on two seperate occasions with West Ham United during the 2009/2010 season, scoring a total of seven goals.
However, the playmaker endured a less successful spell during a loan spell at Watford, which saw him make a mere 3 appearances in the six months he spent with the Hornets on loan.
And according to reports from Italy, the attacking midfielder could be heading back to the Premier League with Swansea City.
Diamanti, who has suffered somewhat of an errant career, having played for 14 different clubs.
His career all started at Prato, where he made a total of 72 appearances, scoring a total of 23 goals.
He’s also made 17 appearances for the Italian international side, where he made 17 appearances, scoring on one occasion during a three-year spell before announcing his retirement in 2013.
With Gylfi Sigurdsson being heavily linked with a move away from SA1, Diamanti could act as temporary replacement.
However, it must be noted the Swans would need a more long-term replacement who could replace Sigurdsson’s contributions to the team – who scored nine and assisted 13 in the Premier League last season.
It is also believed Serie A outfit Sampdoria are keen to sign Diamanti from the recently relegated Palermo.
