Swansea City have completed the deadline day signing of Rangers full-back Declan John.
The Swans have signed the former Cardiff City defender on a three-year deal subject to international clearance. The fee involved is undisclosed, but it’s believed to be in the region of £800,000.
John arrives back in South Wales just one year after initially departing, joining Rangers on loan from Cardiff last August.
The full-back then made his move to Rangers permanent in the winter after impressing during his first few months at Ibrox.
However, following the appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager, John has fallen out of favour through the signings of left-backs Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic.
John begun his career at the youth ranks of Cardiff City before making his first team debut in the FA Cup in 2012.
The pacey full-back then went on to represent the Bluebirds on 23 occasions in their first Premier League season.
Since that baptism of fire, John struggled to nail down a place in the Cardiff City first-team, completing three loan spells during his time at the Cardiff City Stadium. He picked up three of his five caps for Wales during his time in the capital.
However, he now signs for rivals Swansea City to add depth to the full-back position.
The Swans currently have Martin Olsson as their first choice full-back, while Matt Grimes can also offer cover in that position.
